Infertility and Family Planning

Working through infertility can result in feelings of anxiety and depression as couples are faced with mourning the loss of a predictable life path at the same time as they are asked to make complex and difficult decisions about treatment. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 1 in 8 couples of childbearing age struggle with conceiving and/or bringing a pregnancy to term. Infertility can be caused by a number of factors including endometriosis, luteal phase dysfunction, male factor, multiple miscarriages, ovulatory disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), premature ovarian failure, secondary infertility, and unexplained infertility. If you have been diagnosed with infertility and feel overwhelmed, it may be helpful to seek out individual, couples, or group therapy for support.

The licensed psychologists at Rowan Center for Behavioral Medicine have extensive experience working with infertility and family planning. We work with each individual or couple to fully understand the nature of the infertility problems and then tailor a specific plan to address your needs, using evidence-based psychological treatments. Our psychologists will also work with your specialist and any allied health professionals on your team to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that provides the support and understanding needed when facing the demands of infertility.

Rowan Center psychologists have specialized experience that allows us to help those with infertility cope effectively during one of the most intense life stressors. Our primary goal is to help you utilize this difficult time to gain a greater awareness of your own reactions and increased reservoir of coping so that you can achieve your highest level of overall wellness.
