Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy in which groups of clients are treated by one or more therapist. Group therapy has been demonstrated effective in many groups including individuals suffering from depression, veterans suffering from chronic PTSD, as well as groups comprised of adults suffering from varied diagnoses. Group therapy can be used alone or in conjunction with other types of treatment such as individual therapy and medication. Key therapeutic factors thought to be beneficial in group therapy are recognizing shared experiences among group members, feeling as though one has something to offer to help fellow group members, being able to see other members of the group in varying stages of recovery, being able to glean a wealth of factual information from others, feeling a sense of belonging and the ability to gain insight about one’s own problems.  If you are experiencing a life situation or feelings that you are finding difficult to manage on your own it may be beneficial to seek out the help of group therapy.
